Kids and Money

I finished reading David Bach’s book on how to be debt free. His website, Finish Rich, had an area to follow him on Twitter and like on Facebook, technology is awesome!

This article was posted on Twitter, “Top Money Mistakes We Pass On To Our Kids.”

1. Say Nothing
2. Teach the Wrong Lessons
3. Lead by (Bad) Example
4. Not Saying No
5. Lying
6. Overspending on Entertainment
7. Not Saving Enough
8. Unexplained Money Tension
9. Allowance without Enforced Rules
10. Gendered Money Divisions

You can read the full article here. Scott and I are currently coming up with a plan on how to teach our children about finances and hopefully be a good example for them.

Do you talk to your children about finances? Do you have some examples that you would like to share?

2010

Welcome 2010!

I always enjoy welcoming a new year. As I am enjoying the moment, which involves having a lot of time with Kian and Kyra, I get to laugh a lot and get frustrated on occasion. The beauty of spending time with children is that it allows you to see things from a new perspective and to rethink opinions and ideas that you have established.

The world is in constant motion and constantly changing. Children help you to embrace change rather than remaining stagnant. I am reminded of a book I read, “Who Moved My Cheese.” It is a parable based on change and how some can accept change and others will try to fight it. Regardless of which you choose – change happens.

As I welcome the change of the new year, I would like to say thank you to the events that transpired in 2009.

Family and Friends
Meeting Scott and falling in love
Watching Kian and Kyra become even more responsible
Being introduced to the military and the many acronyms
RCIA
Meeting new friends
Volunteering
Learning to balance a stressful job with family life
Not giving up and staying strong
My mom for listening to me vent
My wonderful sitters, I don’t know what I would do without you
Discovering new music and books
Constantly learning from mistakes
Rolling with the punches
Creating and sharing art

With that said, 2010 “Bring it On!” I say that every year to motivate me and they are positive words that keep our family going. For the times when adversity strikes I say, “This Too Shall Pass,” because life is constantly moving forward.
