First, I would like to thank my friends and let them know how much I appreciate all they do. My friends exhibit a great deal of patience and offer invaluable input for the many transitions that life brings. I like having people that I trust to bounce ideas off of and see situations from different perspectives. Constructive feedback and debate are all ways for me to learn and grow as an individual.
Scott and I have written down goals that we are going to help one another achieve. We have created short, mid, and long term goals in several areas. The beauty of goals is that you can revisit them and see how you are doing and if anything needs to be altered or changed completely.
For me, I like the advice I was given that if you have a long term goal established then you can base your short term decisions with that goal in mind. You can ask, “Will the short term decision you make help you toward the goal or take you on an entirely different path?”
More sound advice, which I have talked about before is, “How do you want to be remembered?” With that thought in the forefront then every decision and interaction you have in your daily life can be focused with “Will this help me be remembered the way I want to be?”
I am going to quote Peter Drucker once more because he speaks of this as well. He calls this Self Renewal.
“When I was thirteen I had an inspiring teacher of religion who one day asked, What do you want to be remembered for? None of us had a clue. The teacher said that he did not expect us to have an answer, but if you still can’t answer it by the time you are fifty, you will have wasted your life.”
This basic question is a source of renewal. Once you can answer this question and then continue to ask yourself this question, it will push you to see yourself and also push you to be the person you want to become.
All of the above is helping me to continue on my road to achieving more of my dreams and also bringing about a sense of calm. If you know where you are going and how you want to be remembered, then the road bumps, U-turns, and detours are all part of the equation to getting where you want to be.
Peace to all,
~Alie
